Rigid couplings consist of 2 fully machined cast iron flanges (male and female design) which are mounted onto the shaft by means of taper lock bushes and which are held together by bolts. The male half can accept the taper lock bush from the hub side (design H) or the flange side (design F). The female half is always machined to design F. This HF or FF couplings can be specified – a decision based simply on ease of access during assembly. Note: Vertical shafts must always use FF design only Easy to inspect visually and replace without effort. Rigid couplings do not allow for misalignment. Torque rating dependent on the slip torque of the taper bush. Speed should be limited to 33 m/s (rim speed). Generally suitable for applications using mild steel shafting.
Couplings connect two shafts for the purposes of power transmission between the driver and the driven device.
The type of coupling used depends on factors including speed power and shaft alignment.
NBC offers an an extensive range of coupling systems to meet the specific requirements of customers, we can provide specific solutions across a diverse range of industries.

Rigid couplings with taper bushes provide a simple and effective way of coupling mild steel shafts up to 125mm diameter but cannot accommodate any shaft misalignment. Their power transmission capability is defined by the slip torque of the taper bush.
